Mahershala Ali Officially Steps Away from Marvel's Blade Reboot

The wait for Marvel Studios' Blade reboot, starring two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, is officially over – but not in the way fans had hoped. In a candid interview with GQ, Ali confirmed that he has moved on from the project, effectively ending speculation about its future.

"For whatever reason, that project is not for me," Ali stated. "If they wanted to do it, we would’ve done it. So I have to move on, and I have moved on."

This declaration comes after years of the film languishing in development. First announced in 2019 with Ali attached, the Blade reboot has seen multiple writers and directors depart. Most recently, Yann Demange, the second director to be involved, left the project in 2024. Even Mahershala Ali's voice-only cameo at the end of Eternals proved to be the extent of his involvement. The film was subsequently removed from Marvel's release schedule in 2024, further fueling doubts about its viability.
